Crawley - Location
Midway between London and Brighton on the A23. About twenty five miles from each!
|
| Nowdays known as being a huge 'new town' on the borders of Gatwick Aiport, Crawley has in fact signs of prehistoric habitation! Today it has a booming economy, one of the lowest unemployment rates in the country and is generally seen as one of the most successful new towns in the country. |
|
A great surprise to many, Crawley has a conservation area centred on the High Street where there are buildings that are hundreds of years old. The George Inn goes back to the 17th century and that is not the oldest building here! Recently the town fathers have seen fit to spend considerable sums of money making the town a prettier place - and it has been very successful. | |
| In Queen's Square is a Victorian bandstand which was moved there from the old Gatwick race course. |
