London Heathrow Airport (LHR)
UK - England

Terminal 4 (T4)

Caution! From January 2004 for 2 years there are major road works on the M25 between the M3 and M4 intersections. This work will cause massive problems all around the M25 AND on the ‘local roads’ in the area. Expect delays at all times of day.

T4 from the east (out of London)

This is by far the easiest terminal to reach. M4 out of London to J3, down the slip road and left onto the A312 (dual carriageway), straight over the Cranford roundabout (more dual carriageway) then right onto the A30. Once on the A30 just stick on the road, past Hatton Cross (traffic lights) and about 1/2 a mile further on is a slip road off to the left, that's the one you want. Up and over the A30, a slip road off to the perimeter road should be ignored the next is the one for you. As you come down this road watch for traffic coming in from your right.

T4 from the west (M4)

Opinion is divided on this one, it rather depends on traffic / time of day. In an ideal world then M4 J3 is best, off the slip ramp, turn right under the motorway and follow the instructions above.

T4 from M25 J14

If the traffic is heavy then it might be worth taking the M25 southbound (anti-clockwise) at M4 J14a to the next exit down M25 J14. Off the slip ramp, turn left, 2nd exit on the first roundabout, 2nd exit on the second roundabout, over the traffic lights, 2nd exit on the next roundabout then after about 300 yds there is a slip road off to the left. At the top of the ramp turn left.

Follow the instructions for 'Arrivals' and 'Departures' below.

T4 from the north (M25 anti-clockwise)

Stay on the M25 to J14 then follow the instructions FOR T4 from M25 J14.

T4 from the south (M25 clockwise)

Take the slip road off at M25 J14 then follow the instructions FOR T4 from M25 J14.

'Departures'

Stay to the left and go up the ramp. At the top of the ramp you will find the 'lanes' to the right. If you are 'dropping and going' you want the 2nd lane out from the terminal building. If you want to say 'bye to friends and relatives, go up the ramp in the offside lane, follow the wall around to the right and into the car park, don't forget to stop at the barrier and collect your ticket. For departures, go off to the left once you are past the barrier - it's a short walk to the terminal - 'Departures' is on the upper level.

'Arrivals'

Stay to the left and go up the ramp. Once on the ramp, keep to the offside and follow the wall round to the car park barriers. The first 2 barriers are best as you are going down the spiral to the right. Collect your ticket then bear right and down the spiral. As you go down look for the owls on your left (don't drive into the wall!). I always go to the bottom level and seldom need to go back up to find a parking place. The entrance to the 'Arrivals' area is at ground level.
